Do You Need to Get Someone Out of the Plano City Jail?
If you know someone who has been arrested for driving while intoxicated (drunk driving) in Plano, Texas, you don’t have to wait to get them out of jail. You can help them get released from jail right away by hiring an attorney.
Normally you would have to wait until your friend or family member went before a judge so bond could be determined. The judge is only available at certain times, so this process can take forever, especially over the weekend.
An attorney can get your loved one out of jail quickly through the use of a “Writ Bond.” This instrument is only allowed to be used for jail release in certain counties (Collin being one of such counties), and it can only be utilized by attorneys.
If a writ bond is filed, a bond amount is automatically set at $500 (for 1st time DWI Offenders), which must be paid in cash and in full at the Collin County Jail in McKinnney.
Important:
If a writ bond is used to get your friend or family member out of jail, they MUST show up for a hearing on “the Monday after the expiration of 7 days.” That should be written on the jail release documents, but you might be confused by what it means. I find the best way to explain this topic is through a few examples:
- If you are released from jail on Tuesday (07/07/2015), your court date would be a week from the next Monday (07/20/2015), not the following Monday (07/13/2015).
- If you are released from jail on Monday (07/06/2015), your court date would still be a week from the next Monday (07/20/2015), not the following Monday (07/13/2015).
- If the Monday following the expiration of 7 days falls on a holiday and the court is closed, then your hearing will be the next day the court is open (usually Tuesday).
